Wadjet is an ancient Egyptian cobra goddess and protector of Lower Egypt,
whose cult center was in the delta city of Per-Wadjet. 

She was revered as a mother goddess, patron of women in childbirth,
and protector of infants, as well as the guardian of kings and the monarchy.

Her primary symbol is the uraeus, a rearing cobra,
which she wore as a head ornament representing her fiery power and divine authority,
a symbol that was later incorporated into the pharaoh's crown
to signify his sovereignty over unified Egypt.
